on the way

After months of mulling, brooding and collecting inspiration for my new welded work this year.... a ten minute bull session with the boy has me on the way and excited . He is the problem solver extraordinaire..

Now I just have to match my vision for how the exhibition will look.

ferrying

Well the boy thought it might be a good idea to get an eye infection so we have been running up and down to the hospital for that..

Word of warning about contact lenses.

Also went and got my sister a wheel chair yesterday as she is finding it harder and harder to walk.

I will be able to take her out more easily now... we have an appointment at the dental hospital for her on Monday,

The blue nurses are coming to see her tommorrow so Im looking forward to meeting them

Sanctuary Cove

Just back from a very successful venture with Art Promotions at Sanctuary Cove

Then back to catching up with these

And these guys... want to get them ready for a mould before I go to Sydney to see Amalia on Friday.

Monday, June 14, 2010

Im working hard at the moment to stay on top with my little figurines.

Also I will be working here for a week at the Art Festival in conjunction with the Sanctuary Cove Festival. It promises to be very successful, starting with a cocktail party on Friday night.

Laurie was accepted as a finalist for the Noosa Regional Gallery Travelling Scholarship so that's good. He will be showing this

moving along

This might look like a step backward but it is in fact a huge leap forward.. she is now relaxed and natural and her head is just right.

We've booked a trip to Spain and London for Oct and Nov so that's good...Laurie wants to see what he can do about galleries there.

I have made a commitment to myself to stop mucking around and really apply myself to learning the language..
When I was young I found it so easy to learn something new... I only had to read something a few times to retain it.... what has happened!!!! I didn't feel those neurons dying..

wax

This feels like a backward step.... something is very wrong and I think I have to re measure the heads... probably have to re do them. I want to show the whole process even though it looks really bad at the moment. I want to show you that it's always a real struggle.. they don't just fall into place.
I took my sister to see Robin Hood this morning, she was very happy. The costuming and sets were very good.
Oh and Im going to the ballet to see Swan Lake for my birthday... what a treat.
Tommorrow it's high tea for the Good Samaritans and then I am in the studio with attack on my mind and no excuses!

day three

I want to show you all the stages... ikky days and all. It looks pretty dreadful at the moment. The angle of the heads is crucial and this has to look sinky and relaxed. I have to look at the height of the heads, angle and how they relate to each other.. once I get this right then it just a matter of refinment. As soon as the heads look right I will know straight away.

wax works

Bought this today in town... boy oh boy can't wait to try it~

As I was going into town this morning I was totally absorbed in the beauty of our clear, sharp, cornflower blue BrisbaneinMay sky... we are so lucky. I couldn't help but compare it to the view as we were flying out of Rome a few years ago...

Oh and I like how we say thank you to the bus driver

Studio this week

Finally I have finished the new mould for Question... I sold the last piece from the old mould last week here .. If this mould is not going to work then thats the end of Question all together... we will be doing the first cast on the weekend. (i need the boy)'

This is the new model for another small cold cast piece I intend to get done in the next few weeks.. I want to document the whole process to show people exactly whats involved.

The hard part is to get the figures to have that quality of flesh affected by gravity... they have to sink or they just look like dolls. I try to think about what happens to flesh when its pressed up against something else.

I had a call this morning from my wonderful Dr who is arranging a PAH clinic for my sick sister... once she is in that clinic I will know she is getting the care she needs.

party

I think it would be better to get yourself back into the studio....

I am looking forward to a week with nothing but studio time after spoiling myself with gallery time for the last few days and I certainly aim to start a new welded piece... all this lovely cool weather is going to waste.

back

Im back in the studio after 2 weeks in Sydney moving my sister to Brisbane and visiting my angel

The removalist is delivering on Friday and so we should be all sorted by the end of the weekend.. she tolerated the trip quite well and was very happy to be on the road with my brothers!

In the studio Im finishing the mould which has been gathering dust for a month! tried to open this morning and it's stuck.... I think I need the boy...

Also doing more casting as I have been selling quite a lot lately.... always welcome.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Meant to update last week as I have had trouble with my mould for Question. I have had to scrap the plaster casing altogether and redo one with fibreglass. There is a lot of preparation to make sure the seams fit correctly so its just a matter of making sure all the steps are done properly. Did I mention how much I hate fibreglass?

I have managed to finish my Forest painting for Cerebral Palsy and will post an image as soon as I can. I am also going to do a video as I have images of all the steps. Just a matter of putting in the time.

Busy also with family stuff...

Main Gallery is selling really well for me and I am stocking them up as soon as possible..

Also Manly Gallery as always..

Moving on

I delivered my work to Red Hill today and was very glad to say goodbye and leave it there. Until work is delivered to the gallery it's still "there"

So getting rid of it is like freeing up real estate in my head for the next work..

I am treating myself to painting this week.... a different part of the brain and less physical....

I am ready to start really looking for a place for my sick sister.

end of project celebrations

Finished this today.... end of project cleanup.... Love the end of project rituals.

This has been in the too hard basket for a few weeks.. time to tackle this week....

Also time to resurrect this... it's been hiding for 2 months while I finish my sculpture exhibition. If it goes well I'll put it in the Art for Art's Sake exhibition coming up.
